About this Speaker
Alex Bybee leads Teach Plus' policy work in Nevada with a mission of empowering excellent, experienced teachers to take leadership over key policy and practice issues that affect their students’ success. Alex joined Teach Plus in 2018 from The Public Education Foundation in Clark County, where he served as Senior Director of Development and Community Relations and worked closely with the CEO to lead the Foundation's annual fundraising events, major donor portfolio and strategic community partnerships.
Previously, Alex worked at The Abbi Agency where he managed and led the strategy for the Save Our Schools campaign, which brought together a broad-based coalition that passed a ballot initiative (WC-1, 2016) that provides a new and permanent funding stream for the construction and repair of Washoe County schools.
Alex is passionate about youth leadership—volunteering as a mentor and counselor for the Nevada Youth Legislature, Nevada Association of Student Councils, and the American Legion Nevada Boys State, all programs for which he is an alum. He currently serves on the boards of The Nevada Youth Legislature Foundation and the Las Vegas Chapter of the Human Rights Campaign and the advisory boards of The Public Education Foundation and the Public Service Institute of Nevada.
Alex graduated from the Honors Program at the University of Nevada, Reno with a BA in political science and minor in Spanish. His senior thesis focused on how interest groups choose legislation or litigation when pursuing policy change.
While at the University, he served as Director of Legislative Affairs and Vice President of the Associated Students of the University of Nevada and as a Career Mentor for the Nevada Career Studio. He is a big fan of Hamilton—the Founding Father and the musical—and loves to read books and discuss big ideas. A lifelong Nevadan, Alex lives in Las Vegas with his partner Dan and their two rescue dogs.
