About this Speaker
Rachel and Steven are elementary school educators who work with diverse students and educators to redefine traditional classroom instruction. They believe 21st-century preparation occurs through meaningful and innovative collaboration. By co-creating a teaching method, known as Virtual Team Teaching, students are engaging in preparation far beyond their elementary years. Virtual Team Teaching is a method in which two geographically separated teachers combine instruction, at two different schools, to create one virtual, collaborative, environment.
Most recently Rachel and Steven organized a community event to bring together members of the Navajo Nation to translate a popular Human Body App into the Navajo language. This work not only supported language retention and revitalization but brought together generations of Navajo speakers to teach and learn from each other. Rachel and Steven have been recognized as PBS Digital Innovators, Apple Distinguished Educators, and the Henry Ford Innovative Teachers. They have also had the opportunity to speak at the 2016 and 2017 TEDxABQ Education events, the Apple Distinguished Educator Summit, and iPadpalooza and have been keynote speakers at ECET2SW, the ThankQ Gala, and the Administrator’s Conference on Education.
